Community Action is Working!
Since 2002, in New York State:
- The High School youth smoking rate decreased by nearly 26%.
- The Middle School youth smoking rate decreased by nearly 46%
- The adult smoking rate decreased by 25%
From 2007 to 2008:
Calls to the New York State Quitline from Capital District residents increased by 43% to a total of 13,702 calls.
AND YET. . .The tobacco industry still spends more than $1.17 million per day to market their deadly products in New York State.
AS A RESULT. . . Far too many of our youth still smoke and many more are vulnerable.

Who We Are
The Capital District Tobacco-Free Coalition (CDTFC) is a non-profit partnership of people and organizations from Albany, Rensselaer and Schenectady counties; a Community Partner of the New York State Tobacco Control Program, funded by a grant from the New York State Department of Health.
Our Mission
Reducing adolescent and adult use of tobacco through cooperative programs in prevention, cessation, advocacy, and community education. Since 1993 the Coalition has been working in the community to meet these goals:
1. Eliminate exposure to second hand smoke.
2. Decrease the social acceptability of tobacco use.
3. Promote cessation of tobacco use.
4. Prevent the initiation of tobacco use among youth and young adults.
