Every February, youth and community partners from across New York State come together to engage in action activities and legislative visits to educate about the unmet needs in tobacco control efforts, particularly among youth and certain communities. Smoke-Free Movies International Week of Action
For the past couple of years, CDTFC has partnered with the Schenectady County Public Library, for the annual Smoke-Free Movies International Week of Action to raise awareness about the impact of tobacco imagery in movies and to mobilize the community to take action to help eliminate smoking in youth rated films.

Take Down Tobacco National Day of Action
Take Down Tobacco Day is a fresh take on Kick Butts Day — the annual day of action sponsored by Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids (CTFK) empowers people to stand up and speak out against the tobacco industry.
The past few years we’ve been fortunate to partner with local SADD clubs to educate teens and local decision makers about the harms of tobacco use and tobacco marketing in the retail environment.
World No Tobacco Day
CDTFC raises awareness on WNTD about the deceptive marketing tactics of the tobacco industry, youth tobacco use, and the impact of tobacco use on local communities.
Seen Enough Tobacco Day
Seen Enough Tobacco Day is part of the overall New York State’s “Seen Enough Tobacco” initiative and is observed every year on October 13, to highlight the fact that the average age of a new daily smoker in New York State is 13 years old.
Every October, CDTFC partners with schools and youth-serving organizations to raise awareness of the need for communities to protect children from the billions of dollars of tobacco marketing in places where kids can see it.
The Great American Smokeout
The Great American Smokeout (GASO), sponsored by the American Cancer Society is observed annually the third Thursday of November to encourage smokers to commit to healthy smoke-free lives—not just for a day, but for life.
For the past few years, members of Columbia High School SADD (Students Against Destructive Decisions) Club have organized tobacco marketing education campaigns to raise awareness about the many ways the tobacco industry makes their deadly products sweet, cheap and easy to get. GASO is traditionally focused on helping smokers quit, but SADD club members took the opportunity to encourage their peers to sign a paper feather pledging to be tobacco/vape free and attached it to a big paper turkey’s tail. By the end of the day, that was one seriously well-plumed turkey!
