CVS pulls tobacco off shelves & Albany County holds public hearing

Tobacco sales in pharmacies were a source of both local and national attention yesterday. CVS announced that they would end the sale of tobacco in all their stores by October 1, but they acted a month ahead of schedule. As of yesterday, CVS stores stopped selling tobacco products, rebranded themselves as CVS Health, and launched a national smoking cessation campaign called "Let's Quit Together." Public Hearing Date on Tobacco-Free Pharmacies set for September 3

Mark your calendars for Wednesday, September 3, 2014 @ 5:00pm and share your views on an Albany County law to end the sale of tobacco in pharmacies and stores that contain a pharmacy.Albany County Executive Dan McCoy will hold a public hearing in the Cahill Room at the Albany County Office Building, 112 State Street (announcement here). The Albany County Legislature passed the measure on August 11, but it must be approved by the County Executive to become law. If approved, the new law would go into effect on March 1, 2015 and reduce the number of tobacco retailers in Albany County by about fifty, a 15% reduction overall.  If you are a...
